Popular Filmigame to hit Indian market by mid-July

Filmigame – the first ever DVD based trivia game – which is increasingly gaining popularity among the Indian Diaspora in the US, Canada and Britain, since its launch less than 90 days ago would soon hit the Indian market.

"We have scheduled to launch the Filmigame in India in mid-July," Prita Uppal, founder of the Massachustts-based UNA Media, the company which has developed the game told HindustanTimes.com.

Right now busy launching the Filmigame in several European countries, Uppal said: "We would finish the Germany and France launch by mid-June. Thereafter, we are planning to launch the game in the Middle-East before entering the Indian market."

Having received accolades from film stars and directors, producers from the Bollywood and high ratings from the non-resident Indians in the US, Canada and Britain, she said for the Indian launch, she was planning to make certain changes in the popular DVD.

"The Indian version would be a little bit different. We want to make it affordable for the Bollywood fans in India," she said.

The DVD-based trivia game, which basically encases on the popularity of the Bollywood films among the vast Indian Diaspora in this part of the globe, after its launch since mid-March, has been selling like hot cake in the US.

Initially being sold through its website, the Filmigame in the past month is now available at the Indian retail stores across the US and Canada. "In Britain, it has entered even the mainstream retail market," Uppal said.

Based on the feedback received from the consumers, Uppal said the UNA Media was now working on releasing other special editions of the Filmigame. The one on Indian classical cinema, films "starring" Amitabh Bachachhan and Sahrukh Khan and those produced and directed by Subhash Ghai, are top on the priority list, she said.

Uppal claimed that the game had gained instant popularity among the NRIs because it helps the desis to get together and enjoy at the same time through a fun game based on their popular stars and films.

"It is a very unique product. It capitalizes on the visual elements of the Bollywood. It brings Indians together and at the same time keeps out culture and tradition alive," she said.

Uppal, who is a MBA from the prestigious Harvard University, said she along with her friend and business partner, Sunaina Anand, worked on the project for three years doing research and developing the right kind of this people-friendly game.

Giving details of the game, Uppal said it gives players a chance to test their knowledge on movie, songs, stars, dances and dialogues. The goal is first successfully navigate the Bollywood movies and they complete the Box Office speed round to win. "It allows the players and the team to answer various trivia questions in different categories including Lights, Camera, Action, It's a Wrap and Box Office," she said.

The interactive DVD contains more than 1,200 trivia questions and nearly three dozen movie clips, covering all aspects of the Hindi cinema.
