Earlier this week, 300 people were detained after a party was raided in Pune. Why? Because it went on into those wee hours of the morning that the cops want everyone to ignore. What’s new, you wonder? Well this wasn’t just any get-together. According to a certain news website, it was a porn party! Not the political kind, I assume (though if it was, it wouldn’t have any trouble stealing away the votes).

On a more serious note, I’m pretty sure even Hugh Hefner’s Playboy mansion bashes haven’t achieved that status yet.

Whoever came up with the term knew that calling another bust a rave just wouldn’t be enough. Too many of those acid-tripping, psychedelic-trance-pounding, laser-lit, held-in-the-middle-of-nowhere parties have been doing the rounds.

The young harassed members of that party are now up in arms against the police’s behaviour, a sentiment Mumbai is rather used to and tired of by now. Being the more experienced city in this matter, let’s hope situations don’t get worse; and let’s pray the bug hasn’t moved on to Pune.
