While chaos prevailed at Hussainganj crossing after jailed don Mukhtar Ansari’s lieutenant Kamran Begh started firing indiscriminately, rival groups engaged in brick-batting in Saadatganj and Thakurganj, respectively.

In the first incident, Begh, a contestant for corporator’s post under Samajwadi Party banner from Nazarbagh ward, opened fire at his rival candidate Faisal following a dispute related to the Tuesday polling. A case was registered at the Qaiserbagh police station against Kamran and his unidentified aides. However, no arrest was made till late tonight.

The incident occurred when Kamran and Faisal, accompanied by their supporters, came near Phoolbagh intersection. The duo initially entered into heated arguments and later started hurling expletives at each other.

As Kamran pounced upon Faisal to attack him, the supporters of the two also engaged in fisticuffs. Soon it was free-for-all situation as both the groups started pelting stones at each other.

The local police reached the place only after Faisal had reached the police station. Kamran and his aides had fled the scene by then.

In the second incident, SP leader Bukkal Nawab’s nephew Farhat along with his friend Tavrez clashed with Lalaram at Hussainabad locality following a heated exchange over rigging in Tuesday polls in the area. Both the groups engaged in brick-batting causing serious injuries to Farhat, Tavrez and six others. The violent groups fled the scene only after the police reached the spot.

Also a group of hooligans attacked the house of Durgesh Yadav, a BJP candidate from Kalbe Abid Ward, at Top Darwaza locality in Saadatganj in the night. The hooligans pelted stones at the house causing injuries to Yadav, his wife Aneeta and servant Neeraj.

Yadav named Communist Party candidate Haleem and his aides for the attack.
