Unable to muster a majority on its own, the DMK on Thursday said a decision on a coalition ministry in Tamil Nadu will be taken after consultation with allies.
The DMK chief M Karunanidhi, who led the DPA to a 'spectacular' victory in the assembly polls, told a crowded press conference that he would consult DPA leaders on the form of the ministry to be formed in the state.
Dedicating the victory to party workers, leaders of all constituents and even the media, he assured that his government would not be "politically vindictive" and that the rule of law would be established once again in the state.
Asked about the reason for the coalition's victory, he said the people wanted the autocratic AIADMK rule to go.
The DPA had withstood a "money wave" unleashed by AIADMK and had swum across it due to dedicated work by cadres and leaders of all partners.
He admitted that the party had received a setback in its bastion of Chennai, where it lost four seats.
Assuring that all poll promises would be implemented, Karunanidhi said his government would give a marriage grant of Rs 15,000 each for poor families.
"Let the AIADMK, as the main opposition party, implement its promise of four grams of gold for a mangalsutra, which will reduce political differences in the state," he said.
