Congress workers at Sahapur in Hasan assembly constituency of Birbhum put the local leadership in some embarrassment on Thursday by putting up posters demanding a ministerial berth for district Congress president Asit Mal, who has been contesting from this seat since 1987.

“During election campaign, the state Congress leaders, including Pranab Mukherjee had promised that Asit Mal would be a minister in the new government,” said a local Congress worker.
“Asit Mal has won from this seat even at the peak of the Left regime. He is popular in this area since he is a dedicated and honest MLA,” Gurusmaran Banerjee, block president of the Youth Congress, said.
