Power firm slaps Rs 23 cr fine

THE MP Central Region Power Distribution Company (MPCRPDC) has fined a sum of about Rs 23 crore on 54,634 connections where irregularities were detected during inspections conducted this year till January.

THE MP Central Region Power Distribution Company (MPCRPDC) has fined a sum of about Rs 23 crore on 54,634 connections where irregularities were detected during inspections conducted this year till January.

The company has recovered a sum of Rs 14.27 crore of the total fine so far, MPCRPDC joint secretary Manohar Chelani informed through a press release on Friday.

The company officials conducted inspection of more than one-lakh premises so far in the year. In the Bhopal region, 74,199 premises were inspected and irregularities were found in 40,227 of them.

Fines of nearly Rs 15.40 crore were slapped on consumers. Of that, a sum of Rs 10.15 crore has already been collected. Similarly, 36,591 premises were inspected so far in Gwalior region under the MPCRPDC jurisdiction. About 14,407 were found to be having irregularities and a total fine of Rs 7.70 crore was slapped. A sum of Rs 4.22 crore has been accrued so far from defaulters, the release added.
