Prime Minister Narendra Modi would have one-to-one meetings with chiefs of five transnational corporations with combined worth of more than half a $ trillion during his five-day trip to US from September 26-30.
Given the power-packed agenda that culminates in a private dinner with US President Barack Obama on September 29 in White House and bilateral meetings the next day, serious preparations are already afoot with entire Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and ministry of external affairs pitching its best to make PM Modi’s visit to US a grand show.
Nripendra Misra, principal secretary to PM, took a meeting of 15 senior secretaries on August 29 to review the bilateral agenda, while National Security Advisor Ajit Doval reviewed the defence and security ties on September 5.
Indian and US diplomatic sources told HT that Modi arrives in New York for the UN General Assembly on September 26 and addresses the multilateral body the next day. The big show, however, is the Indian community function at Madison Square Gardens on September 28 with key aide Bharat Lal and BJP general secretary Ram Madhav already on the job in New York to get the NRI organisations together.
