Already suffering from 6-8 hours of power-cuts, around 70,000 residential electricity consumers from Indirapuram, Kaushambi, Vaishali and parts of Vasundhara, the upscale localities in Ghaziabad, would get some relief as the work for three new 33/11 KV substations are complete and the stations would start functioning from Sunday.
At present, the residents of these areas are reeling under severe power cuts ranging from 6-8 hours a day due to heavy load on existing substations, which leads residents to incur a heavy expenditure to meet their power requirements from other sources.
The three new substations, developed in green-belt area in Shakti-Khand, Abhay-Khand and Nyaya-Khand, would be able to handle the frequent over-loading and tripping of electricity supplies.
“With the start on Sunday, we will be able to cut down the unnecessary load on existing infrastructure and provide electricity above 20 hours in a day. Even if a 24-hour supply is required, we will be able to provide that for another 10 years, once we get clearance from state authorities,” executive-engineer (distribution), Mahesh Upadhyaya told Hindustan Times.
The entire project, already delayed by six months, involves a cost of R20 crore and will start operation on Sunday. The electricity distribution circle also contributed around R80 crore of revenue during the month of March as compared to around R60 crore during the same month last year.

{{/usCountry}}Officials said that two more similar under-construction sub-stations would start functioning soon at Kaushambi and Vaishali. At present, these areas get supplies from 9 such sub-stations and three new would add to the existing strength.
The existing demand in these areas is around 150MVA, which is expected to rise to 200MVA, and the officials have also planned to get additional 25MVA supplies from 220 KV Noida sector-62 substations in near future.
“We are actively working on the issue which has some bottlenecks. Once cleared, more power would be provided within a month,” AP Mishra, chief engineer, Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) told HT.
