A LESA official had to pay dearly due to the connections in the echelons of power a woman running a renowned beauty parlour on Sapru Marg has.
LESA on Saturday shifted an assistant engineer (revenue), Clyde Road, Rajeev Garg, to the rural area of Malihabad as a punishment.
He had been posted as SDO in place of RS Yadav who has been cooling his heels in jail ever since the anti-corruption sleuths caught him red-handed accepting bribe last week.
Shifting of Garg followed the beautician’s complaint of ‘harassment’ to the higher-ups. A senior LESA officer says that a regular visitor to the Chief Minister’s home, the woman had been doing rounds of the AER to have her electricity bill rectified since her meter had burnt. As per the Electricity Distribution Code provisions, in case of a burnt meter, the department can charge bill for a maximum period of last three months on the basis assessment of consumption pattern of previous period when the meter was in working condition. But, in this case, the AER prepared a bill of around Rs 89,000 for the period of last 38 months.
The bill, said the officer, should not have been for more than Rs 10,000.
When she was not given the bill as per rules despite her repeated requests, the woman brought up the matter to someone in the CM’s family. LESA chief engineer AK Singh was asked by the UPPCL management to shift Garg immediately from the Clyde Road sub-division which caters to the VIP localities, a posting considered prized. Garg has now been posted as SDO at Malihabad, which, a LESA officers referred to as ‘Kala Pani’.
