He was speaking as the special guest at the inaugural function of the three-day training workshop on bird flu prevention and management. Principal secretary Ranjana Choudhary inaugurated the workshop organised by the State Animal Husbandry Department.

Commissioner of animal husbandry Shikha Dubey presided. About 100 officers of forest, fisheries, irrigation and veterinary departments are participating in the workshop.

Dr Pradhan emphasised on bio-safety and bio-security and mentioned that last year 26 countries were affected by the disease while in 2007 by now 11 countries including neighbouring Pakistan have been affected. He mentioned that the HSADL is a very high standard laboratory equipped with latest diagnostic techniques and facilities.

Ranjana Choudhary appreciated the contribution of Dr Pradhan in control of bird flu in MP last year. She said that the training was very important, as it would increase the competence of the officials. Shikha Dubey urged the officials in training to pass on maximum information to poultry farmers.
