Prakash ousted in Wimbledon qualifiers

India Davis Cupper Prakash Amritraj tried everything he could but he failed to keep the momentum and lost his second round qualifying match, ending India's hopes of seeing a player competing in men's singles of the Wimbledon Championships.

Up against a tough customer in 13th seed Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky, who is placed 137 in the ATP charts, Amritraj, ranked 311, lost 3-6 6-1 3-6 in the match played last night.

Now Indian hopes surround Fed Cup member Sunitha Rao, who is competing in the ladies' singles qualification. She faces 15th seed Russian Olga Puchkova in the second round.

FedEx, Ivanovic handed Wimbledon top seedings

London: Roger Federer was confirmed as the top seed at Wimbledon on Wednesday as the defending champion aims for a sixth successive singles title at the All-England Club.

Novak Djokovic, the Australian Open champion, is seeded third, while Andy Murray, Britain's only realistic hope of success in the singles has been seeded 12th. French Open champion Ana Ivanovic, the new world number one, has been handed the top seeding in the womens singles.
