Noted scholar and critic Prof Namwar Singh said that Munshi Premchand was a realistic author, who penned down the actual face of contemporary society.

He was delivering the inaugural address of a three-day seminar on ‘Premchand, Children and Education’ at Central Tibetan Institute for Higher Education in Sarnath on Friday. National Council for Educational Research and Training has organised this seminar to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Premchand.

Prof Namwar Singh said that the writing of Premchand seems to be very simple but it speaks volumes about the contemporary society and practices. He discussed one of the most popular story ‘Idgah’ (having a kid as the main character) of Premchand and said that it was one of the most important creations of Premchand. He said that Premchand was a great author of children.

Earlier, NCERT director Krishna Kumar established the theme of the seminar. The main attraction of the seminar was the presence of two colleagues of Premchand, Ram Murat and Ram Surat who shared their experience with the audience.

Prominent among others who were present on the occasion included Prof Nirmala Jain, Dr Manager Pandey, Prof Kamla Prasad, Dr Kashinath Singh, Dr Shambhu Nath, Dr Bachhan Singh, Dr Awadhesh Pradhan, Prof Dipak Malik, Dr Gaya Singh, Dr Ram Janma Sharma, Dr Chauthi Ram Yadav and Dr Sandhya Singh.
