President asks medicos to end agitation

PRESIDENT A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has asked the medicos agitating against the proposed OBC quotas to end their hunger strike, assuring them that the number of seats in central educational institutions will be increased.

PRESIDENT A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has asked the medicos agitating against the proposed OBC quotas to end their hunger strike, assuring them that the number of seats in central educational institutions will be increased.

The assurance came when student delegations from various universities met him on the issue of reservation on Wednesday. Agitating students, meanwhile, thwarted the government's ad-hoc recruitment drive at DDU, GTB, LNJP, Safdurjung and GB Pant hospitals.

Shaily Chaterjee had come from Kolkata after hearing of the recruitment drive. But when she reached GB Pant for the interview, agitating doctors convinced her to join their cause. "They have a reason," she said. "They promised me that when there are openings here, they would offer the job to us."
