President Pratibha Patil on Tuesday presented the 41st Jnanpith award to Hindi poet Kunwar Narain for 2005 for his contribution to Hindi literature.

President Pratibha Patil on Tuesday presented the 41st Jnanpith award to Hindi poet Kunwar Narain for 2005 for his contribution to Hindi literature.

The award, instituted by the Bharatiya Jnanpith Trust in 1965, carries a shawl, a memento, a citation and Rs 7 lakh.

Patil called for translating great literary works in different languages so that the creative writers and people at large understand the new trends prevalent in the Indian literature.
