Price hike fuels protests in city

ACTIVISTS OF the Mahanagar Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha today burnt the effigy of Petroleum Minister Murli Deora at Subhash crossing in Civil Lines in protest against hike in prices of petrol and diesel. Mahanagar unit president of the Morcha Vijay Kesarwani said price hike would increase the economic burden on common man, as it would lead to spurt in prices of all commodities. Among those present on the occasion were city BJP president Ranjit Singh and Morcha general secretary Shailendra Mishra.

Mahanagar unit president of the Morcha Vijay Kesarwani said price hike would increase the economic burden on common man, as it would lead to spurt in prices of all commodities.

Among those present on the occasion were city BJP president Ranjit Singh and Morcha general secretary Shailendra Mishra.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Jan Shakti Party activists led by founder member Sunil Jain and youth leader Pramil Kesarwani also burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Subhash crossing on Wednesday in protest against the hike in prices of petrol and diesel.

Both Morcha and Jan Shakti Party threatened to launch massive stir if the hike was not withdrawn.

In Varanasi, the BJP activists organised a ‘chakka jam’ at various places, including the Varanasi Cantonment Railway Station.

The party activists burnt the effigies of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora at various places like Sigra, Andharapul, Pandeypur Crossing, Godaulia, Maidagin Crossing, Lahurabeer Crossing, Chauka Ghat, Lanka Crossing, Girjaghar crossing, Bhadau, Harteerath, Tarna by-pass.

According a report from Lakhimpur-Kheri, the BJP took out a procession. The party workers raised slogans against the Union Government and detained the Howrah-Amritsar Mail for 40 minutes at the Pratapgarh railway station. Party’s district president Swaminath Shukla led the procession.
