Presiding over the dharna, district unit president of the association Janardhan Tripathi accused education officials of harassing teachers.

Tripathi claimed confusion prevailed over pay scales and nature of the job of teachers, along with duties of the coordinator, the assistant coordinator etc. All this was adversely affecting the implementation of various government schemes for promotion of primary education, he said. He demanded that the authorities clear the position immediately.

Tripathi blamed education officials for delaying promotion of primary teachers and junior high school teachers as head of the institution. They handed over a charter of demands to education officials and demanded that seniority of teachers be considered from 1993 on the promotion list.

He alleged some education officials were involved in financial irregularities and demanded an inquiry into utilisation of funds allocated for construction of
primary schools in various blocks.

Primary teachers raised the issue of delay in disbursing salaries of newly appointed teachers for the last five months and said retired class IV employees of the department should be provided pension on the basis of their seniority.
