Speaker R Avudiappan referred the issue to the privileges committee, averring there was prima facie evidence of breach of privilege.

Reading out a statement after Question Hour, Stalin said Jayalalithaa, at a press meet on Wednesday, had charged him with plotting to kill her before the next Assembly election.

This report was published in many newspapers and reported by many TV channels. “Whenever she is in the Opposition, it has become customary for Jayalalithaa to level such allegations, which only reflects her phobia. Since she has said it outside, I am ready to face her allegations in court,” Stalin said.

He then sought the Speaker’s permission to move a privilege issue against Jayalalithaa, Jaya TV and two Tamil evening papers, Makkal Kural and Namathu MGR, that had reported her speech verbatim.
