Pro-quota students stage rally

PRO-RESERVATION SUPPORTERS of Allahabad University (AU) staged a demonstration at Subhash crossing in Civil Lines here on Tuesday. The semi-draped students painted their bodies with pro-quota slogans. The students were led by AU student union leader Dr Nirbhay Singh Patel and Ripusoodan Yadav. Patel said the demonstration was a warning to the Central government and said no reservation for OBCs in higher education would deprive them of opportunities in the future.

The students were led by AU student union leader Dr Nirbhay Singh Patel and Ripusoodan Yadav.

Patel said the demonstration was a warning to the Central government and said no reservation for OBCs in higher education would deprive them of opportunities in the future. He said students would take to the streets if their demands were not considered.

Yadav said pro-quota students were ready for an intense struggle and demanded 52 per cent reservation for OBCs according to their population.

Zia Kaunain Rizvi demanded action against doctors opposing reservation and hampering medical services. Several other student leaders said reservation was their fundamental right and they could go to any extent to get it.

Munna Singh Yadav, Ram Chandra Yadav, Chandrika Patel, Santlal Verma, Sudish Gaur and Sushil Gaekwad were present.

Meanwhile, AU students led by AUU president Ajit Yadav joined the pro-reservation rally in front of the Parliament in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The undergraduate and postgraduate students of Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU) whose 24 hour relay hunger strike entered its fourth-day here on Tuesday, would now go on a 48 hour relay hunger strike from Wednesday.

As many as six medicos of IMS-BHU including Dr. Anurag Gupta, Dr. Manjari Dixit, Dr. Dinesh Singh, Dr. Saurabh Srivastava, Dr. Khushboo Singh and Dr. Sushma Shanker under the banner of Resident Doctor’s Association (RDA) sat on the 24 hour relay hunger strike on IMS premises here today.

“We are left with no option but to intensify our agitation and get the government realised that the proposal to enhance reservation for OBCs in premier educational institutes would only hit the existing academic standard hard”, said the RDA members.

Besides, the medical students interacted with the office-bearers of different Bar Councils and Business Organisations of Varanasi to gather their support for the proposed ‘Maharally’ on May 25.

The students launched a campaign in the hostels and residences of BHU to garner support of hospital staff, nursing staff and members of other faculties for the massive rally on Thursday.

Kanpur
ENGINEERING AND medical students of Kanpur took part in a cycle rally, here in Kanpur on Tuesday.

The rally was taken out to protest against the proposed reservation in higher education institutes.

The rally was organised by the newly-constituted Forum of Indians Against Reservation (FIR). The rally started from Student Activity Centre at Indian Institute of Technology. As the rally proceeded, students of Harcourt Butler Technology Institute (HBTI), GSVM Medical College, Rama Dental College and VSSD college joined in. Students on cycles carried placards demanding withdrawal of reservation order. The other slogans included ‘Don’t divide us in caste’, ‘let us study in peace’ ‘let vote politics go down’ and ‘provide us a free and harmonious environment for studies’.

Students caught the attention of commuters during the rally. Many expressed solidarity with the students. The rally reached Moti Jheel and converted into a public meeting.

Gorakhpur
JUNIOR DOCTORS at BRD Medical College in Gorkahpur have geared up to join the anti-reservation movement in support of the medicos’ strike. They convened a meeting on Tuesday and discussed a strategy for launching the movement.

Though the date for agitation has not been announced, sources said junior doctors would take to the streets after completion of the Medical Council of India inspection . Dr Pankaj, Dr Rahul Srivastav, Dr Anoop Gupta and others criticised the Union Government. Dr Rahul said a mass contact programme would be launched.

Meanwhile, an SMS to doctors from various parts of the country is creating confusion.

The message says Dr Subhash Srivastav who was on hunger strike against the reservation proposal collapsed on May 20 at 6.44 pm and the media ignored the news. The Junior Doctors’ Association said the SMS was false.
