The IG took the step following complaints of manipulations by the investigating officer to help the conspirators and the murder accused. The complaint was handed over to the IG by a relative of the deceased. The relative is also a complainant and an eyewitness in the case, which hogged the headlines for several days.

Talking to HT, the IG said he had ordered the inquiry in two parts. The criminal part of the inquiry will be carried out by CO Rishi Pal Singh Yadav, while the other probe into allegation of corruption against SSP Vijay Singh Meena will be carried out by DIG Akhilesh Mehrotra. It has been alleged in the complaint that the accused gave a sum of Rs 25 lakh to the SSP in order to influence the case, in which MD JK Agrawal could not be arrested, despite the fact that the High Court had refused to grant a stay on his arrest. The MD was also one of the accused.

Two of the accused, Bhaskar Yadav and Avnish Yadav, had in the presence of mediapersons confessed that arms and money were provided by the factory management to carry out the killing of Amrendra Pandey, who had been leading a workers’ agitation against the management of the factory.
