A probe was today ordered into the killing of an elephant calf allegedly by local villagers in Assam's Morigaon district.

Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain, who visited the Sonaikuchi area where the calf was killed after it wandered away from herd, ordered the probe.

The calf was seriously injured on October 23 and subsequently died of injury. Hussain said action will be taken on the basis of the probe.
