The group charged the State Government with apathy towards their problems and said these contract teachers were being used as domestic servants and farm labourers in some places.

Pressing for the acceptance of an adjournment motion on the issue, leader of the group Om Prakash Sharma said in several places the village pradhans, who were appointing authority of sikhsha mitra, had been taking menial work from them. He said instead of being given teaching responsibility, they had been deployed at brick kilns.

He said though they were getting an honorarium of Rs 2400 per month, they were being treated as daily wagers, as there was no service rule to govern them. Seeking status of full-fledged teachers for them, Sharma said their services should be regularised. Leader of the House and Family Welfare Minister Ahmad Hasan assured the members to solve their problems. Munna Singh Chauhan (RLD) said in order to remove anomalies there should be a district level committee to control pradhans in connection with appointments. He said the government should also make provision to avoid annual recommendations for appointment of these people. Heera Thakur (BSP) also demanded their regularisation.
