To check the decline in the number of students who take up physics for higher studies and choosing a career, a year-long programme on 'Appreciating physics in everyday life' was launched by the National Council for Science, Technology and Communication (NCSTC) network on Friday.
The programme, aimed at popularising the study of science, has been envisaged as a 'follow-up' to last year's celebrations of 'International Year of Physics'. Under the plan, three sets of audience like school students, teachers and the common people are being targetted to generate more interest in the study of science or its application.
NCSTC is a network of 65 government and non-government organisations (NGO) operating in the country at different levels to popularise science education.
In Meghalaya, the State Council of Science, Technology and Environment (SCSTE) and Centre for Science Education of the North Eastern Hill University were members of the conglomerate.
SCSTE member-secretary, R D West, said the network proposed to train 60,000 school teachers to become resource persons to communicate science to the students.
