Programmes mark World Tourism Day

TO MARK the World Tourism Day, various programmes were organised in the city on Wednesday. The formal function began with garlanding of foreign tourists by the students of the Institute of Tourism Studies, MGKV, on steps of ancient Dashwashwamedh Ghat at the time of sunrise.

TO MARK the World Tourism Day, various programmes were organised in the city on Wednesday. The formal function began with garlanding of foreign tourists by the students of the Institute of Tourism Studies, MGKV, on steps of ancient Dashwashwamedh Ghat at the time of sunrise.

The director of the institute, Prof Mahesh Vikram Singh and the Regional Tourist Officer of the State Government, Anoop Srivastava also welcomed the foreign groups.

The owners and employees of different hotels throughout the city welcomed the foreign tourists in their hotels by presenting them a bouquet. Several hotels offered special discount to the tourists and guests today to mark the function.

A quiz contest, ‘Discover Varanasi’ was organised jointly by the Lions Club, Natraj and State Tourism Department in the cultural complex at Chaukaghat.

Students of five schools participated in the contest. The function was likely to be followed by a cultural evening here with presentation of shehnai by Naiyyar Hussian in memory of his father, Ustad Bismillah Khan. Divisional commissioner VV Singh Vishven was the chief guest of function while district magistrate Rajiv Agrawal and the tabla maestro, Pandit Kishan Mehraj was the guest of honour.
