Protest after cops gun down 'militant' in Kashmir

Protest broke out in South Kashmir's Chrar-I-Sharief area after army claimed to have killed a militant in an encounter on Wednesday afternoon.

Protest broke out in South Kashmir's Chrar-I-Sharief area after army claimed to have killed a militant in an encounter on Wednesday afternoon.

The encounter took place in Dalvan, village in Charar-e-Sharief and the identity is yet to be discovered.

"Today afternoon an army team was moving towards village Dalwan in the jurisdiction of police station Chrar-i-Sharief, Budgam and reportedly came under fire," an official said.

"During the fire fight, an unidentified gunman got killed from whose possession, one SLR, one Pouch 04 SLR magazines, 13 SLR rounds, one grenade and PAN card was recovered," the army said.

Army however said a PAN card recovered from him states that the militant as Tauseef Ahmad Dar, a resident of Pulwama.

"The police party has taken the possession of the body and is trying to ascertain the identity of the body," army said.

Meanwhile six people have reportedly been injured, during protests in Central Kashmir's Budgam district after forces claimed to have killed a militant during a firefight.
