Uttar Pradesh Governor TV Rajeswar's remarks about Sanskrit sparked off protests in the city for the second consecutive day demanding his immediate recall.
Students of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University held protest demonstrations in different parts of the city against Rajeswar and burnt his effigies, demanding his immediate recall.
Protesting students along with Shiv Sainiks also burnt the governor's effigy at the district headquarters, Lahurabir crossing, Maidagain crossing, Lanka area as well as blocked traffic for sometime.
The police had a tough time in controlling the protesting mob outside the main gate of the Sanskrit university at Jagatganj area. Slogans like 'Rajeswar Murdabad' reverberated in the university campus.
"We demand recall of Governor Rajeshwar for his comments on Sanskrit," former President of Sanskrit University students Union Girjanand Chaubey said. The agitating students blocked the Jagatganj road for sometime till a strong contingent of police force reached the spot.
It is noteworthy that despite being a holiday on the campus, students had gathered in large numbers to protest against the governor's remarks.
The agitating students late in the evening ransacked the residence of Vice-Chancellor of Sanskrit University Prof AK Kalia for inviting Governor TV Rajeswar who also happened to be the Chancellor of the university.

{{/usCountry}}Surprisingly, Padam Bhushan Girja Devi who was also honoured by the University on the Convocation ceremony condemned the Governor for his 'irresponsible' comments against Sanskrit.
"I was extremely happy for being honoured by the university, but I also feel what the governor should not have made those comments, which have sparked violent protests in the campus," she said.
It may be mentioned that violent protests, vandalism, stone pelting and police lathicharge marked the 27th convocation ceremony in Sampurnanand Sanskrit University following Uttar Pradesh Governor TV Rajeswar's remarks over Sanskrit language here on Friday evening.
Governor Rajeshwar as Chancellor of the University while delivering the convocation address had said, "Sanskrit was not going to enhance the job prospects of the Sanskrit students as it would only make them priests and teachers." He had exhorted them to learn English and have computer knowledge as well.
There were protests everywhere forcing the governor to have an unceremonious exit under security cover.
