City Police Commissioner B Prasada Rao said 27 activists were taken into custody, as the incident raised questions of security lapses. The incident occured after the House meeting for the Budget session was adjourned for the day.

Gaining entry into the Assembly premises with visitors' passes, the slogan shouting activists were demanding immediate categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SCs) in the state.

Taking everyone by surprise, the activists of Madiga Reservation Porta Samithi (MRPS) managed to climb the assembly building and threatened to jump to press for their demand. They also raised slogans against Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy for the alleged delay in categorisation of Scheduled Castes.

Security personnel, however, managed to pull them back and took them into custody. Minutes later, some more activists of the outfit locked themself up inside the chambers of ministers including Home Minister K Jana Reddy before they were overpowered.
