Teachers also organised a silent march to the office of the deputy commissioner of police.

Prashant Lahane, 30, had committed suicide in front of the UMC on Tuesday, to protest against the alleged physical and mental harassment of his handicapped sister Sangeeta, a UMC employee, by senior officials.

Sangeeta had accused the education officer and some politicians of harassing her.

Charansingh Tak, UMC labour union leader, said, “Ganesh Shimpi, the UMC commissioner’s secretary, was no way concerned with the Lahane issue. They should withdraw his name from the FIR.”

Ashok Patil, a teacher, said, “We are shocked that our teacher Subhangi Salukhe’s name figured in the case. She has nothing to do with the Lahanes, how can she instigate the suicide? Her name should be withdrawn from the case.”

Sandulal said the case should be transferred to the CID or Special Investigation Team.
