Protests flare up after minor girl ‘abducted’

A Muslim youth allegedly abducted a Hindu minor after reportedly sexually exploiting her for over 10 months.

A Muslim youth allegedly abducted a Hindu minor after reportedly sexually exploiting her for over 10 months.

The incident came to light on Thursday when the girl lodged an FIR against Mohammad Yasin alias Ehsan. According to the police, he identified himself as Sonu Singh. However, later the girl became aware of his religious affiliation. She is eight months pregnant. The accused is now in judicial custody. And the minor is at a women’s home following a court order.

The news soon spread across the district and political, social organisations held massive protests and several organisations have demanded a strict punishment against the accused.

The police said that the girl’s family hails from the Barwatoli village and the accused from the neighbouring Mado village. His real identity was revealed when the villagers got wind of their relationship. The couple fled and was later found in his village.

“A full medical report is awaited but doctors have confirmed she is eight months pregnant,” said Prashant Karn, superintendent of police, Chatra.
