Activists of Apna Dal staged a dharna at district headquarters here in Varanasi on Tuesday.

The speakers said they would not allow the government to acquire agricultural land for setting up the project.

Speakers opined the scheme would render many farmers jobless as there would be no agricultural land to work upon. It was alleged instead of ensuring smooth power and water supplies to farmers, the government was now planning
to make farmers unemployed.

District president of Apna Dal Rajesh Patel, Mahanagar president Jamal Warsi, Anil Maurya, Subhash Patel, Vijay Jaiswal, Jaggannath Chauhan, Neelratan Patel addressed the dharna.

Apna Dal activists supported the proposal of the Union government to enhance reservation in higher academic institutions and flayed the State government for poor power and water scenario in the city.

It may be noted activists of Adarsh Bharatiya Sangh had staged a demonstration at district headquarters on Monday against the hi-tech city project. Some other organisations such as Khet Bachao Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, Varanasi Sanyukt Sanghrash Samiti and Kisan Sabha have also been protesting against the plan.
