Peeved at the unprecedented rostering at night, the activists of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha staged a massive dharna at Maidagin power Sub-Station here on Wednesday. The speakers demanded that the state government ensure uninterrupted 24-hour power supply in the city. It was alleged that the State government was extending ‘step-motherly’ treatment to Varanasi and that was why the citizens were reeling under severe power crisis.

President of Mahanagar Bharatiya Janata Party Kailash Keshari presided over the dharna and said that the State government had failed to provide smooth power supply in the state. The demonstrators said that when towns such as Itawah, Saifai, Mainpuri and Jaswantnagar could get 24-hour power supply, then why could a religious and tourist spot like Varanasi not get smooth power supply.

Interestingly, the employees of Purvanchal Power Corporation have extended their support in the ongoing protest against unscheduled power cuts at night. In a meeting held here on Tuesday, the members of Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti decided to stage a dharna outside the office of the managing director of Purchanchal Power Distribution Corporation on May 11 to protest the unscheduled rostering at night in the city.

Activists of Purvanchal Mukti Morcha and Varanasi Nagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal staged demonstrations at different places on Tuesday against the poor power scenario in the city.

Activists of Bharatiya Janata Party have decided to stage a massive dharna at Sigra office of the Power Corporation against the poor power supply in the city on May 8.
