"This year, history and political science have emerged strong with maximum students taking admission in these courses. This is because students who earlier opted for BA (programme) are now taking up history and political science as the next best alternative," said Praduman Kumar, principal, Hindu College.

While several colleges such as Kirori Mal, Kamala Nehru and Hindu have closed admissions for both history and political science already, at Lady Shri Ram College a few seats in history are still available. In LSR's second cut-off list one can hope for an average drop of 0.25%.

Officials, however, also believed the trend could be because students pursue these subjects in order to experiment with other career options.

"Students are experimenting a lot these days. There are students from commerce stream who have taken up these subjects because they want to branch away from subjects such as accountancy and business studies. A lot of students have chosen these subjects with an aim of preparing for the UPSC examination," Kumar added. .
