WITH A view to eradicate the polio disease completely and to make Madhya Pradesh a polio free State, polio drops will be administered to children up to five years of age on Sunday – April 9. As many as one crore children are expected to receive polio vaccine under the Pulse Polio Campaign.
In the current phase of the campaign, wide arrangements have been made to complete the set target. A total of 44,014 pulse polio booths have been set up, 1,350 mobile teams and 2,500 transit booths have been constituted and about 1.56 lakh volunteers have been engaged to administer the vaccine and 8,801 supervisors have been deputed to oversee the process.
Under the pulse polio campaign, on the first day polio, drops will be given to children up to the age of five years in the concerned booths. On the second and the third day – April 10 and 11 - the pulse polio teams will ensure door-to-door polio drops administration to left out children.
On an average one booth each has been set up for 250 children and four employees have been appointed at each booth. One supervisor in every five booth will supervise under the campaign. Besides, mobile teams will administer polio vaccine to children living in semi-urban areas, slums, small-big factory campuses and others.
Likewise, transit booths have also been set up at bus stands, railway stations and airports. The Health Department has solicited the cooperation of people to make the Pulse Polio Campaign a success. The department has said that while the country saw 66 polio cases in 2005 and 17 cases in 2006 till now, not a single polio case has been reported in the State during this duration, which was the result of the contribution and cooperation of the people. Rather no cases of polio has been reported in state since year 2003.

{{/usCountry}}Health Minister’s APPEAL: Public health and family welfare minister Ajay Vishnoi has appealed to all sections of societies, mainly people’s representatives, NGOs and parents of children below five years of age to ensure that all children in said group are vaccinated on April 9, Sunday. He sought cooperation of all to make Madhya Pradesh a polio free state and said the target could be achieved only if every person personally ensures administration of polio drop to at least one child.
Chouhan’s appeal
CHIEF MINISTER Shivraj Singh Chouhan has appealed to parents to administer polio vaccination to their wards of up to six years of age in order to prepare a healthy manpower for the State. The Chief Minister said existence of the dreaded polio disease despite expansion of health facilities and increasing awareness towards health issues was not in the interest of the society.
He said the fight against polio had reached a decisive phase. Institutional arrangements have been put in place for effective vaccination. Now the State Government needs a little more cooperation of parents and able-bodied citizens to wipe out polio.
