They said the RPF jawans tore the guard’s clothes, beat him and put him in the lock up. They threatened to boycott their duties if the railway administration failed to punish the RPF jawans.

Guard Udai Shanker Singh was on duty on the 5209 Jansewa Express. The RPF escorts boarded the train at Chhapra railway station. When the train neared Mairwa station, a passenger pulled the chain and alighted from the train. The guard Udai Shanker Singh reported it in the diary. The RPF escorts warned him not to note down the incident.

The dispute took an ugly turn when the train reached Gorakhpur railway station around 9 pm. The RPF jawans dragged him out of the guard’s bogey and bashed him up. The incident led to resentment among other guards. They rushed to the GRP police station and mounted pressure for the release of their colleague.
