"He (Bhullar) was not keeping good health and was suffering from some disease related to liver for the last seven-eight years," investigating officer Har Sahai Sharma told IANS.

He said 50-year-old Bhullar died on his way to the hospital.

"Though it seems to be a natural death, we are awaiting the post-mortem examination report before arriving on any conclusion," Sharma said.

Bhullar was elected to the Punjab state legislature from Nurmahal in Jalandhar district, around 200 km from in Chandigarh.

Davinder Pal, a close friend of Bhullar who brought him to the hospital, said: "Bhullar came to Chandigarh on Saturday evening. I went to his place around 12.45 pm and found him lying unconscious. I immediately informed the police and brought him to the hospital."
