Rahul Singh, an upcoming under-19 Punjab cricketer, has lost his eye in a freak bullet injury. The victim, a member of the U-19 Jalandhar squad that was travelling back home after playing the U-19 Punjab Inter-district final at Mohali, sustained the injury on Friday evening when a constable of the 4th Indian Reserve Battalion, Jalandhar, Jatinder Singh, opened fire following an altercation with the conductor of the bus they were travelling in near Ludhiana.

Rahul, who was travelling on the roof of the bus with his teammates, was hit in the face. He was immediately rushed to the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).

“He's still in a semi-conscious state and not completely out of danger. The bullet had pierced his left eye and hit the brain. But his other eye is alright,” said Dr Kanwal Masih, Medical Superintendent, CMCH.

The Police have arrested the constable who fired the shot, but his accomplice is still at large. A few years back, India hockey skipper Sandeep Singh too had met with a similar accident in a train on his way to Delhi.
