Maoist guerrillas have announced a virtual ban on Coca-Cola and Pepsi in Bihar, calling them a health hazard.

The outlawed People's War Group (PWG) has threatened to attack anyone selling the two drinks, whose popularity has taken a hit since a New Delhi environmental NGO warned that they contained high levels of pesticide residues.

The PWG said its order would go into effect from August 15, India's independence day.
"Retailers and distributors should stop selling them or face the consequences," it said.
A PWG leader, identified only as Prakash, accused the two companies of "selling poison" in their soft drinks.
