THE QUAD Sparing Minimal Invasive Surgery (QSMIS) is the best developed surgery system for conducting total knee and muscle sparing hip replacement and it would prove to be a pre-requisite for the futuristic “robotic Surgery” system.
Orthopedic surgeon Dr RK Singh told HT that under the new surgery technique whole operation was performed through a joint window of two and a half inches to three inches without cutting Quadriceps thigh muscles. Similarly the total hip replacement was done without cutting any hip muscles through an incision of two and a half inches.
Dr Singh further said that due to several advantages of the new surgical techniques more patients were attracted towards it. He said, “The patients who come to know about QSMIS through Internet suggest us that they be operated through QSMIS method.”
He said there were many advantages of this kind of surgery. First of all there is a very little blood loss and the patient did not need to stay at the hospital for a long period. Patients can start moving and working as soon as the effect of local anesthesia was over. Besides, it left a very negligible scar on the operated portion.He said since the future surgery will depend upon computer surgeons and computer assisted devices and in that case these types of surgeries would prove to be the best option for doctors and also for patients.
He said this surgery has set a new standard for better treatment of knees and hip arthritis and it has an edge over the other operative methods.
