An earthquake of moderate intensity jolted the Nicobar Islands on Thursday, the second temblor to hit the region in 14 hours, but no casualty or damage was reported.

The quake, measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, was recorded at 0823 IST, the Met office said.
Last evening, a quake of 5.3 intensity rocked the region. Both the temblors were epicentred off the west coast of Nicobar Islands.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands had been battered by Tsunami waves caused by a giant quake off the coast of Indonesia on December 26 last year. Hundreds of aftershocks have hit the region since then.
