The magnitude-4.0 quake was centered in the mountainous Hazara region, about 200 Kms northeast of Peshawar, said Mohammed Akram, assistant meteorologist at the state-run Seismological Centre.

The tremors were felt in the districts of Mansehra, Balakot and Batagram and elsewhere, he said.

Akram gave no further details and only said the quake was felt in the same region where last year's 7.6-magnitude earthquake had killed thousands of people and left many others homeless.
