A moderate earthquake shook eastern Indonesia's Sulawesi Island on Sunday, the local meteorological agency said. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

The magnitude 5.1 quake rattled the northern tip of Sulawesi Island at 7:01 am local time (0431 IST), said Yusuf, a meteorologist with the agency.

The epicentre was located in the Maluku sea about 160 kilometres northeast of the North Sulawesi provincial capital of Manado, he said.
Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago, sits atop a volcanically active region in the Pacific known as the Ring of Fire.
