Despite medicos returning to duty across the country, junior doctors in Madhya Pradesh continued to strike work on Thursday.
They have accused the Centre of making false promises of increasing seats, especially in state medical colleges.
However, in view of their counterparts returning to work in Delhi, representatives of junior doctors from medical colleges in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Rewa and Jabalpur, were holding a meeting in the state capital to chalk out further course of action.
"The strike will continue in Madhya Pradesh. Medical colleges in the state are under-staffed and lacking infrastructure. The Centre can't increase seats as the Medical Council of India will never permit it," Junior Doctors Association general secretary Anand Rai said.
"Seats can be increased in Central institutions like the AIIMS and PGI, but what will happen to 3,600 all-India quota seats, half of which are allotted to the state governments," he asked, adding that the state government was yet to approach the junior doctors.
Meanwhile, copies of the Supreme Court directives asking junior doctors to return to work were sent to the deans of all five medical colleges in the state, sources said.
