The National Knowledge Commission, which came under a controversy over the OBC quota issue, on Thursday said it has to "move on" with its "bigger job" despite the government overlooking its objections and going ahead with reservations in higher educational institutions.
"We have given our recommendations. It's for the government to decide what government thinks is the right thing to do. We are not in a position except to give recommendations to the government. We are not in any other position. So we have done our job and we have to move on, it's simple," Commission chief Sam Pitroda told in an interview.
Pitroda, who termed unfortunate the resignation of two of Commission members over the Central quota proposals, insisted the panel set up to advise the Prime Minister on a variety of issues had a broader mandate to work on.
"Our mandate is much broader. Our job is to give proper advice, as we understand as professionals, to the Prime Minister... Then it is for the Prime Minister and the government to decide what they want to do with it," he said.
He also ruled out his resignation over the quota row, saying the panel would continue to work with its remaining six members.
