Quota panel submits interim report to PM

The Veerappa Moily Committee on new reservation policy on Friday submitted its interim report to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The report has also been submitted to the Human Resources Ministry and other ministries, official sources said in New Delhi.

Constituted by the government in May this year to suggest ways to ensure implementation of reservation to socially and educationally backward classes in the institutes of higher learning along with the over-all availability of seats, the Oversight Committee, headed by former Karnataka Chief Minister Moily, has been given time till August 31 to submit its recommendations.

Among others, the 13-member committee includes B Mungekar, Member, Planning Commission, R Mashelkar, Director General, CSIR, SK Thorat, UGC Chairman, RA Yadav, Vice Chairman, AICTE, NK Ganguly, Director General, ICMR, G Mohan Gopal, former VC, National Law School and RV Vaidyanatha Ayyar, former Secretary.
