The Oversight Committee, studying the issue of reservation for OBC students in academic institutions of national importance, will ensure protection of the interests of general students in its recommendations.
Committee Chairman Veerappan Moily told reporters on Friday that the five expert groups under it had been asked to prepare a roadmap towards implementing 27 per cent reservations in such institutions.
"In the roadmap, it has to be ensured that the interest of the general category students are not jeopardised. It must also protect the brand equity of the institutions and put them on the autobahn of knowledge society," Moliy said.
The Oversight Committee's draft interim report on the issue would be ready on July 24 after which a Detailed Project Report would be made ready on July 31. The final report is scheduled to be submitted to the Prime Minister on August 31.
Stating that massive expansion of capacity in the areas of faculty and infrastructure was needed in those institutions, Moily said that the report would also address the question of funds flow to the institutions for the next five years.
