Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has ordered an inquiry into saturday's police lathicharge on medical students, who were protesting against increase in OBC reservation in medical colleges.

"Police commissioner AN Roy has been asked to conduct the inquiry and submit the report within a week to the government," the Chief Minister said.

He also added that appropriate action would be taken after receiving the inquiry report.
Speaking to mediapersons on the sideline of cricket tournaments prize distribution function at Kalachowki here on Sunday, Deshmukh said, "I saw the visuals of the incident in the media clippings and ordered an inquiry."
More that 20 medical students suffered injuries in the police lathicharge.
