Medicos decided to donate blood and asked people to do likewise in expression of solidarity as their protest against proposed reservations for OBCs in educational institutions continued in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on Monday.
"We have decided to donate blood and organise blood donation camps as a mark of protest against the reservation proposal," Post-Graduate Institute for Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) vice- president Anindya Banerjee said in Chandigarh.
He said the stir against quotas was continuing and resident doctors had opened parallel OPDs and were conducting special clinics in hospitals as the number of patients had increased manifold.
Chalking out their plans for agitation, he said representatives from medical colleges and hospitals from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh would reach PGIMER after which a delegation of 16 representatives would leave for Delhi to express solidarity with protesting doctors at AIIMS.
Health services remained crippled in the region with patients continuing to face hardships in the wake of the strike by the medicos.
Critical areas, including the emergencies, operation theatres and intensive care units were being maintained by consultants of the faculties, officials said.
