In course of their agitation against the government's decision to introduce the quota system in elite educational institutions, striking doctors on Thursday clashed with the police near the Supreme Court premises in the national capital.
The resident doctors of AIIMS, MAMC and Hindurao Hospital were staging a sit-in demonstration outside the apex court.
Five of the doctors, including two women, were injured in the clash.
The striking doctors are demanding the apex court's intervention in the Centre's decision to introduce 27 per cent reservations for other backward castes (OBCs) in government-aided institutions.
Earlier, a large section of resident doctors in New Delhi's key hospitals, including AIIMS and Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), decided to go on a mass casual leave for the day.
Besides the sit-in demonstration, medicos and students will also form a human chain outside the Supreme Court demanding its intervention to stop the government from going ahead with tabling of the quota bill in Parliament.
