Third seed Aisam Qureshi, the champion last week, breezed past unseeded Vijay Kannan of India 6-3, 6-1 to enter the quarterfinals of the $15000 ITF Men’s Futures here on Wednesday. Qureshi’s powerful serves, backed by excellent crosscourt backhand winners, proved too hot to handle for Kannan throughout the match.

Earlier in the day, the 25-year-old Pakistani completed the formalities in his first-round match against unseeded Ravi-Shankar Pathanjali, winning 6-2, 6-7 (8), 6-4. Fourth seed Karan Rastogi was also in great touch, displaying an impressive array of shots as he cruised into the last eight with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Stephen Amritraj. In the morning, Rastogi beat unseeded Niklas Bucht of Finland 6-3, 6-1 in a one-sided match.

Top seed Alexey Kedriouk, the temperamental Kazakh, did not throw around his racquet for a change, playing calmly in a 6-2, 6-0 rout of Canadian Pierre-Ludovic Duclos to enter the quarters.

Unseeded Ashutosh Singh, who upset second seed Prakash Amritraj on Tuesday, continued to play brilliantly when he overcame Chinese Taipei’s Hsin-Han Lee 6-3, 7-6 (5) in another pre-quarterfinal match.
