R-Day effect: Mobile, internet connections jammed in Kashmir

Mobile phones and wireless internet connections across Kashmir Valley were rendered inactive on Republic Day as a precautionary measure, official sources said.

Mobile phones and wireless internet connections across Kashmir Valley were rendered inactive on Republic Day as a precautionary measure, official sources said.

However, Internet services through landline telephone connections were functioning. It has become a regular practice in Kashmir to jam mobile telephones and internet signals during Republic Day and Independence Day functions.

Militants have used mobile phones in the past to trigger remote-controlled explosive devices in Kashmir. The services were restored after the official function at Srinagar's Bakshi Stadium was over in the afternoon.
