In the centre of Colombo's commercial heartland, Premadasa International cricket stadium was renamed in the honour of former Sri Lankan President Ranasinghe Premadasa. It has a capacity of around 40,000 people.

The ground is quite new, with the first One Day International being played here being Sri Lanka vs New Zealand in 1986. Before the World Cup of 1996, it had hosted 16 ODIs.
